Whitworths sugar
Anyone know whether Whitworth granulated sugar is from sugar beet or sugar cane? I'll soon be taking my bees off of fondant icing and moving over to sugar syrup but sugar from sugar beet is poisonous to them. And as I have 15kg of the darned stuff, I think I better check. Whitworths haven't replied to me.
"Whitworths Golden Granulated Sugar is the natural raw cane alternative"
From the Whitworths website .....

B*gger.
Anyone want any sugar?!?!?!
how much did it cost WW? I could buy it from you when we next meet? it would be good for summer jamming- thinking ahead lol
Didn't know that about the beet sugar. I will check that DH and DS know as we get out hives soon.
I've not heard of that WW - where does the info come from?
Had a quick look - all I can see is poisoning from the pesticides used on sugar beet?
I think maybe that is it. I just know from the BK Club that sugar beet is an absolute no-no.
If it's British sugar, then it's made from beet; cane sugar is from abroad. I can remember that bit, but not the name of the company that makes British sugar from beet. Needs more investigation. Will see what I can turn up.
History of the UK beet sugar industry
The company is called British Sugar UK & Ireland and is part of British Sugar Group, which is wholly owned by international food, ingredients and retail group, Associated British Foods plc.
There's one I buy in Sainsbury that actually says British sugar on the bag, though, and has the wee red tractor symbol. Can't remember which it is :x
Silver spoon do beet; Tate & Lyle do cane
 Silver Spoon, that's the one. Thanks WW.
