A big bag from David Austen has arrived; they should be the roses I ordered earlier this year from the special offer in Country Living magazine. Will be interesting - I was trying to recall to Leanne which ones I'd ordered, and had to admit defeat!! _________________ unboughtdelicacies

William Lobb, Madame Hardy, Tuscany Superb and Charles de Milles - I need to do a Google image search I think
Can't have too many roses, nita I used to be not too keen on them, but I was brought up with floribunda and hybrid type ones; when I discovered the beautiful old ones that you could get, I was off
I see my green rose is flowering at the moment, too, so will put up a pic of that - it's quite interesting. _________________ unboughtdelicacies

Oooh, mine should be here soon then, I too have Tuscany Superb and Gallica and Ferdinand Pichard. I was only thinking about it this morning and thinking I need to be ready for them!
The thought of planting them brings next summer that bit closer.

I've got all off those MrsL, I love william lobb, I can't recall the story but I think he was a cornish plant hunter? I'll have a look later.
I find william can grow quite tall and a bit floppy, so I have a few hazel rods supporting him. _________________ Its good for you, It's character building.

Ooooh, lovely! I have two Austin roses, a sweet little "Mary Rose" & "The Mayor of Casterbridge" which came out the year that my stepfather was mayor of Dorchester, so we were all given one. Mine, after struggling for a couple of years, suddenly raced upwards & became a huge climber and gives us a spectacular & very fragrant display every summer. My brothers' & stepsiblings' all stayed small & polite - manageable, in my middle brother's own words! But I wouldn't change mine for all the tea roses in China...
